皆神神社創建一三〇〇年記念事業

概　要：

奈良時代に奉祀された熊野出速雄神社（通称・皆神神社）は2018年で創建1300年を迎えます。これを契機とする、神社を核とした中山間地域の活性化プロジェクトになります。

対象地域は典型的な中山間問題を抱えており、少子高齢化や第１次産業の衰退が目立つ一方、近年では豊かな自然と旧城下町都市ならではの情緒を求めて、クリエイターを中心とする若・中年層の移住も増えてきています。明治時代まで修験道で栄えた歴史を持つ皆神神社は、多様な信仰を受け入れてきた背景と、大らかな運営形態によって、古くからの住民ばかりでなく、こうした人々の精神的な支柱にもなりつつあります。

私たちはこのような神社独特の公共性と求心性をまちづくりに活かす第一歩として、皆神神社と協働のもと、奉納劇の製作・上演を主軸とする一連の文化事業を企画しました。

この記念事業の主目的は、皆神神社の歴史を文化遺産として伝えるばかりでなく、現代における「祈り」の意味を問うことで、神社という存在そのものの現代的な価値を再考すること、さらには将来のより広範な活動に向けて、地域に潜在する人的・物的資源を探り、相互に繋げることでした。

具体的な取組みとして、地元演劇関係者および一般公募による出演者と協働した演劇の製作・上演、地元音楽関係者と協働したイメージソングの製作・配信、地元酒造店と協働した地酒オリジナルラベルの作成・配布、さらに表具師や精神科医と協働した、日本文化や神道の新しい価値を広めるワークショップの開催等を行いました。

Concept:

This is a pilot project for the community development of a rural area by focusing on a Shinto shrine as a community center.

In addition to the fact that shrines have been the spiritual support for the community in Japan, Minakami Jinja shrine in Nagano recently plays an important role as a cultural or even creative nucleus for young locals, because of its inspiring atmosphere, long history, and flexible management.

In accordance to the 1300th anniversary of the shrine, we proposed some event-based projects, as the first step of a long-term revitalization project of the area, where the decreasing birthrate, aging population, and the decline of the primary industry are becoming serious problems.

The core of this anniversary project was making and dedicating an original drama, which featured the past and the future of the shrine, based on the clear objectives:

To tell the history of the shrine as the local identity.

To rethink the contemporary value of a shrine and spiritual issues.

To discover local human and physical resources and integrate them with each other for the future actions.

Also some adjunct projects such as making a theme song, designing an anniversary label for local Japanese sake, and holding workshops with a psychiatrist and craftsmen were realized by the local collaboration.
